ENGLISH BOOK

Robin wakes up from being knocked out by Batman and quickly realizes he's starving. As he moves to exit the condemned part of the city he finds that the old Opera House is serving food and putting on some kind of performance so he changes back into his street clothes and attends the underground performance for the food.

Spoiler, suffering from a cold, follows him there and watches him from above, assessing his interactions with other audience members and trying to figure out what he's doing. A much-anticipated performer gets up on stage to play the piano. Steph finds her fashion sense embarrassing, her piano skills amateurish, and her singing even worse, but the audience, Tim included, seem enraptured.

Suddenly, an unseen force rewrites history. In the new timeline, Steph is Robin and Tim is a civilian who has been kidnapped by villains called Priestoids. As they lead him toward an ominous-looking machine, he notes that his captors aren't very physically imposing, and regrets never having taken any martial arts classes.

Batman swoops in to fight off the Priestoids and free Tim, while Robin tries to figure out how to destroy the machine. Tim deduces how it works well enough to give her useful advice. With the machine destroyed, the Priestoids become ordinary people, very confused about what's happening. Batman does his best to reassure both them and Tim; Tim is annoyed that Batman didn't recognize his ingenuity, and shows off by revealing that he knows Batman is his neighbor. He immediately regrets this, and Batman and Robin depart the scene swiftly.

Tim's relieved parents shower him with affection, and he reflects on what he knows of Stephanie's past, wondering if he could be Robin with the right training or if his comfortable, tragedy-free life has left him unsuitable for heroism. He sees an Impulse scout leave a surveillance device in the tree outside his home and goes to retrieve it. The screen on the device shows Bedlam; Tim tries to figure out why he looks familiar, and in the process notices that the image gets fuzzier as he walks toward his house and clearer as he walks away. He keeps walking in the "clearer" direction, and the landscape transforms around him into something out of a Dr. Seuss book.

He encounters the real Impulse, wearing a Kid Flash costume. Impulse explains that Bedlam is using his scouts to mess up history, and asks for strategic advice. Tim suggests just reabsorbing all the scouts, and in return asks for information on breaking into the place that Impulse just broke out of: Bedlam's lair.
